Reflection on Eid-al-Adha

The three days of celebration of Eid-al-Adha, one the most auspicious festivals on the Islamic Calender ended yesterday. Through pictures and watching the news, I saw shopping bazaars come to life with children playing, last-minute preparation, applying Henna, and of course, the livestock, ready to be sacrificed in commemoration.

Every year, the tradition of celebrating Eid-Al-Adha has been the same for my family here in Canada. We all go to to offer our prayer in the morning followed by my dad leaving for a slaughterhouse, to sacrifice livestock. I have yet to participate myself but inshAllah that day will come soon. Once he returns, the remainder of the day is spent feasting on delicious food, and sharing good company with family and friends.  On the second day, my entire family goes and distributes the meat from the sacrifice among the poor and other family and friends we weren’t able to visit.

Easy to say it gets crazy, but I wouldn’t give it up for the world!

So my challenge to readers is simple; show me how you spent Eid in your part of the world! Describe what Eid-al-Adha mean to you on our Facebook page (Pictures would be great!), and don’t forget to Tweet!
