Help Build a Library in Morocco

December 2012, UFS alumni (Sana Khan, Farah Mohammad, Maysa Matariyeh, Farrah Javed, Anfal Awwad, and Fatema Nourzaie) traveled to Morocco to participate in a service trip. During those two weeks, they conducted health screenings, taught children about oral hygiene, volunteered in hospitals, planted crops on a farm, provided emergency relief for a remote mountain village, and volunteered in an abandoned children’s center.

Although they left Morocco at the end of December, their work did not stop there. For the past five months, they have been working on the second part of their service project; giving those deserving children a library from which they can expand their knowledge. The village of Riad is located halfway between the major cities of Essaouira and Agadir. Recently, a middle school, elementary school, and library were built for the children of Riad. The classrooms are full of students eager to learn, but unfortunately, the library stands empty. The UFS alumni decided to fill that library with books and have collected hundreds of books to send to these children.

We still need your help. Through your donations, we hope to not only ship the books directly to Morocco but also to improve the library by having the next group of volunteers build tables and bookshelves and buy additional books.

We would appreciate any support you can provide to help make us with our library project.
